š¦ The long-tailed tit or long-tailed bushtit (Aegithalos caudatus)
š Aegithalos (Greek): tit
š caudatus (lat.): tailed
This little fluffy ball with a long tail was not alone, but, as always, in a small flock of the same balls. It is even difficult for me to imagine how hard it is for them in winter, in severe frosts that can reach -48C.
The fact is that the usual winter birds eat seeds that they get when they crack the shell, or get seeds from rowan berries. But these birds do not eat rowan, and their short beaks do not allow them to crack the shells of seeds and nuts.
With regards to the flock. Their flocks are small and consist mainly of relatives and "friends" who helped them feed juveniles.
We can say these are family flocks. And of course these friendly birds participate in mixed flocks of different bird species.
