🦉 The grey-headed woodpecker (Picus canus), also known as the grey-faced woodpecker

📚 Picus (lat.) woodpecker; in Romanesque mythology, Peak, or Picus, the Roman god of forests and the king of Latium, distinguished by male beauty, rejected the love claims of the sorceress Circe (Kirka), after which the offended Kirka turned him into a woodpecker
📚 canus (lat.) gray

Quite a rare species of woodpeckers in my city. Most often I managed to see them in spring and autumn, although he is a sedentary nomad.
Unlike other woodpeckers (great spotted, lesser spotted, white-backed, three-toed), he does not participate in mixed flocks of birds, he prefers to be alone. Shy, does not allow to come closer to him.

He loves ants very much, and in the spring he destroys anthills, or eats ants crawling on trees.
