This beautiful bird is only found from southern Nicaragua to northern Panama. Despite this, it is considered the most common parakeet in the central valley of Costa Rica and it is easy to find in gardens, parks, buildings and hollow trees where it can nest.

They are recognized for being very noisy birds, they are playful and curious and usually move in groups of 10 or more individuals.

Currently, in Costa Rica the keeping of these birds as pets is prohibited, however, years ago it was very common, since red-fronted parakeets have the facility to imitate voices and sounds.

Este hermosa ave solo se encuentra desde el sur de Nicaragua hasta el norte de Panamá. A pesar de eso es considerada el periquito más común del valle central de Costa Rica y es fácil de encontrar en jardines, parques, edificios y arboles huecos donde puede anidar.

Se les reconoce por ser aves muy ruidosas, son juguetonas y curiosas y suelen desplazarse en grupos de diez o más individuos.

Se juntan con una única pareja por toda su vida y cuidan de dos a cuatro huevos. Los jóvenes desarrollan sus plumas rojas distintivas hasta que cumplen el año de edad.

Actualmente, en Costa Rica se prohíbe la tenencia de estas aves como mascotas, sin embargo, años atrás era algo muy común, pues los periquitos de frente roja tienen la facilidad de imitar voces y sonidos.
