Vyakhiri - forest pigeons

DSC00626-2.jpg

Forest pigeons - Vyakhiri usually settle at the edges of forests. Sometimes they can be seen in large parks with clearings.
In the glades, they look for food for themselves. These are usually insects, worms and small flying animals.
Pigeons can often be found by the sound they make while sitting in a tree. These sounds are similar to the hooting of an owl. Many people who have not seen the pigeons think that it is the owl that makes sounds like that.

Vyakhiri are not very shy. If they are sitting in a tree, you can get closer to them. Pigeons can often be seen in pairs.

In early spring, they begin to build nests for their offspring. As a rule, the female sits in the nest, incubating eggs, and the male carries her food. As soon as the chicks appeared, the parents begin to carry food for them together and feed the babies.
When the chicks grow up, they independently leave the parental nests and begin an independent life.

As a rule, pigeons do not settle in cities. Sometimes they can be seen on the outskirts of cities, but they nest in the forest.
