Jackdaws dismantled a tree stump

In this small park, we carried out work to remove old trees. They were cut down, but the stumps remained. I often walk around this square and began to notice that jackdaws gather near one stump, sometimes in a whole flock.
Looking closer, I noticed that they were pinching off pieces of wood from the stump. The stump was badly rotted and the wood inside the stump was not hard.

There were probably many insects or worms in the body of the stump wood. To get their jackdaws, they slowly plucked off the wood and took them out for themselves. This went on constantly.
Little by little, a large depression formed in the body of the stump. Jackdaws climbed into this hollow and plucked off pieces of wood further.

It was very interesting to watch how jackdaws get insects from the insides of the stump. It was a large feeding trough for them. Jackdaws crowded on the stump all day and flew away only if someone came close to them.

As a result of this work, jackdaws almost completely disassembled this stump. Now there is no need to waste energy on its uprooting and removal from the ground.
If the rest of the stumps are not removed in a timely manner, then they will probably also be dismantled over time with jackdaws.
Here you can see what remains of this stump.
