Little ringed Plover looking for food at the river shore

Little ringed Plovers are one of my favorite birds that live on the river shores near the water and are not that shy. During my several trips to the river shore of the Danube river, I was able to take a lot of pictures of this cute little bird species. I really like them a lot because the can come really close to you if you lay still on the ground, they pretend as you are not there and look for little insects in the gravel. This can be pretty rewarding for you as a photographer.

In Spring, the little ringed plover is one of the more common birds here at the river shores. I know several places along the Danube and on the shores of smaller lakes where I can find this bird. But still I like it very much.

Because the little ringed plover is one of the smaller birds that live at the water I like it really very much. Way more than herons or gulls that also can be found on the same places. On the gravel bar at the danube they can only survive when the water is not too high. Depending on the closing and opening of the power station sluice there is more or less water at the lower end of the power plant and only if the water level is low for several weeks they can lay their eggs there and hatch young birds. But I assume most of the time they are not able to hatch their offspring their and need to search for a better safer place with a better water level.
