Inside the crow's mouth

Bo's hot face. He keeps his mouth open to cool down. According to Audubon.org, they don't pant like dogs, but rather flutter the muscles in their neck to let off heat without expending valuable moisture.
You can see from his wet beak that he just had a drink from the water I brought him. The evaporation of his moist mouth probably helps the cooling process, too.

His mouth is still a little pink from his childhood. He's only two years old. According to what I've researched, the more pink the inside of an American Crow's mouth, the younger they are.
Here you can see his soft palate in the back, and a tiny bit of his tongue at the bottom.

Here he is blinking his nictitating membrane to keep his eyes moist. Really completes the look, don't you think?

Thanks for looking inside my crow friend's mouth with me.
