Silver Bloggers' Community Smorgasbord - 27 August 2021

smorgasbord 26 aug 2021.jpg

Hello, everyone!

It's been a while and we're back with a lot of Sassy Silver Bloggers' posts. Unlike our first catch-up and curation post. In our defence, @lizelle and I do our best to juggle our virtual lives with the everyday demands of real life. Neither of us is retired. Yet. And as everybody knows, life is often full of, well, just stuff. Anyhow, this isn't a pity party, but rather a celebration of the contributions folk make to our growing community.

First, some housekeeping

To begin with -

While we weren't watching, there have been some new delegations to our community account. Each and every little contribution helps to build the account and increase our voting power, and which is to the benefit of members of the community. At the moment, we manually curate, but as the numbers grow (yay!), that's becoming a challenge. So, we're investigating ways of managing this. That said, if you

  • would like to delegate to the Silver Bloggers Community, the handy table at the end of this post is a good place to start; and
  • are interested in helping with this and any other community duties, get in touch with either Lizelle (lizelle#5440) or me (fionasfavourites#1035) via Discord.

How posts are selected

The posts we select to showcase must not just have been posted in the community, but the account must be subscribe to it. Also, the topic must fit in with our general themes as set out on our community page -

  • a keenness to learn more about blockchain and crypto
  • life experiences
  • musings and memories of lives lived
  • planning for (and doing) life beyond formal work

Excluded

Posts that are a response to a community or challenge like #bow are not considered.

This time round, we have an eclectic collection of posts

Traditions and travels (of a sort)

Personally, I love hearing about the traditions of other cultures and families. @sanjeevm shares about the celebration of Raksha Bandhan between his two children.

Similarly, yet differently, @simple.joys marvels at the butterfly and what she symbolises as she accompanies her on a trip to visit her grandparents' graves.

Then, @bartolomee takes us with poetry, through her window, and into the garden.

Finding a way of cobbling together a set of interesting yet eclectic photographs into a single post - in a way that works - is a talent. This is exactly what @bashadow has done - all while parking the car.

Matters of the earth

That last post gave me a great segue into the final two in this edition as both celebrate life either of or from the earth.

I am so envious of @shanibeer's rhubarb haul. It's a "fruit" I enjoy and which we rarely see. It's difficult to grow and even more difficult to find in the shops. My mouth waters at the though of her rhubarb and ginger jam.

Last, but by no means least is @carolkean's marveling at her mother's powering through - even when there is none!

Pop over, say hi and get to know some new members of our community! Remember, if a post has expired by the time you get there, and you can't vote, you can always add a tip!

Finally, a reminder about this week's Blog of the Week

More details are here, but just in case you've forgotten

the deadline has been extended to Monday 30 August 2021
