Blog of the Week Winners - 5 October 2021

Thirty years winners.jpg

For this edition of the Silver Bloggers Blog of the Week, the number of qualifying entries was a little down (14 as opposed to 17), but the total number of posts using #bow was up. It seems that, again, the topic really resonated for so many. We did, however, stick to the rules and considered only those entries that shared their links on the announcement post.

Some housekeeping and advanced warning

We continue to be happily surprised at the number of entries from folk that have not subscribed to the Silver Bloggers' Community. We hope that your experience in our space encourages you to join this somewhat more mature (and eclectic) bunch of bloggers! Because of this, we will, from the next round, be tightening our criteria for the winning posts:

  • for an entry to be considered, the account must be a subscribed to Silver Bloggers, and
  • post links for entries will also have to be dropped in our Discord channel which is open to subscribed members only.

A reminder for everyone:

  • The community description which you will find here, is a guide to the content that is welcome in the Silver Bloggers' Community. We will encourage folk who post content that doesn't jive, to find an alternative and more comfortable space in which to play.
  • The winner of this edition of #bow can contribute to the next, but will not be eligible for a prize - we like to share the love.

Returning to this week's edition, the panel of four three (@lizelle, @papilloncharity, and @fionasfavourites - @tarazkp is still on a leave of absence and @ericvancewalton has also had to step away for personal reasons) had difficulty choosing, and we had to get help. More of that below.

This week's prizes

The winner gets

  • 50% of the liquid rewards from the post announcing the winners. His/her account has been set as a 50% beneficiary for this post
  • 10 Hive sponsored by Silver-Blonde Lizzie that she will send directly to the account wallet

And...

Thanks to our founder and Silver-Blonde Lizzie, Silver Beet and Silver Thumb, for contributions to the prize pool so that -

  • The runners up each receive 5 Hive from Silver-Blonde Lizzie
  • and each of the honourable mentions, 2 Hive from the pot

All prizes will be sent directly to the winners' accounts' wallets.

However prizes will be sent in a few days' time as they have to be drawn from the savings! Sorry for the delay, but we are making the system work for the community....

But

The pool of prize money is diminishing, so if you would like to sponsor a specific prize or contribute to the prize pool, please send the Hive or HBD directly to the community account with the memo:

Before we get to the winners -

Some of the posts mentioned below will all have reached their payout date (expired). If you visit them, please do more than comment: please give them a tip. The minimum tip is 0.1 Hive (of course, you can tip as much as you like!) and it goes straight to the account's wallet.

Winning posts

There were 14 posts to choose from, in addition to Silver-Blonde Lizzie's poignant post about life's lessons.

There were lots of deserving contributions with themes of love, loss, life and happy births. There were four that stood out for us and, again, no outright winner. Here are all four and the randomly generated result:

Special mentions

One post deserves special mention.

Instead of her own story, Ruth listened to, and wrote down, her mother's three significant life lessons. They are stories of strength and resilience and, tragically, the story of too many women. Especially in Africa. A recommended read.

Runners up

I mentioned that there were four posts from which we had difficulty choosing. The one that fell out - as it were. Our resident Dude's lessons that led him from and to a caravan.

Runners Up

Evgeny reflects on his journey from teaching into business and finally, reveling in creativity and the lessons he's learned over the last thirty years.

Carolina reflects on happy memories and retirement before reaching 40. She concludes sharing how this community and Hive have helped her and her family survive (and cope) with life in Venezuela.

Winner

In less than three decades, our own Silver Thumb has done more than many in an entire lifetime. Hers is a story of commitment, survival and love. She really is our resident young, old soul! As South African activists say to their peers, I say to you: Long live!
