Flowers and Fish

It's that season again. The Blushing Brides that are cultivated high in the mountains above the village. It also means spring is near. They have a short season and these arrive at the market because, for some reason they can't go to the major retailers or overseas.

I had to have a bunch.

They have special significance for us: they mark the anniversary of our decision to move to McGregor. We took a bunch back to Cape Town with us. They graced our dining room table and feature in the agent's marketing photos when that house went on sale.

I had always wanted them in my bouquet when I got married. And I did with some late blooms in September, 19 years ago.

About the fish

It has been an age since we had a fish braai. Last night we did. Thanks to the good folk from our local deli, The Blend.

A simple basting of olive oil, garlic and lemon juice and served with sauteed courgette, roasted butternut and for The Husband, potato. On the side, basil aioli.

What a treat!

Until next time, be well
