To remember is to live and I think this post is the perfect opportunity to remember all this journey.

How did I get here in the first place?

Let's place ourselves in the year 2017, specifically in the month of December.

What is so special about this date?

Bitcoin reached the staggering value of 20,000 USD for the first time! This was the first demonstration that cryptocurrencies were not to be taken lightly. I remember the bunch of "happy December" or "I must not work at McDonalds anymore" style memes lol.

That moment was incredible for all the holders and an unforgettable one without a doubt. For me, thanks to this moment I fully understood what cryptocurrencies are all about, their value does not only circulate on a monetary basis, the value is much more than that.

While going through my gallery in Google Photos I noticed that there are a lot of memories relevant to my earlier times working with cryptocurrencies. I found it quite nostalgic to see this screenshot of my watchlist in 2020.

Just look at the absurd prices that existed at that time, a BTC with a value of 7k USD, Cardano 0.04 and even ETH with 196$.

There are a lot of people who would give a lot to buy at these prices again, but time cannot be recovered, that's why I say that this crypto era taught me a lot about this world.

Even at that time there was Hive, but its price is ironically a little higher than the current price. At that time it was just the birth of this whole project, so I'm just starting.

I was born in Hive under the user @jeanxd, it was the first account I created, but I never understood what to do and I also did a couple of unintentional wrong things, so I created another account by which most people have known me: @flaws.

Having the @flaws account was quite a journey, it was a roller coaster of emotions and psychological maturity that had a huge impact on my life in general. I started at a snail's pace, the community before was INCREDIBLY different from how it is now, I mean, everything worked completely different from what we are used to right now.

In short: Most of the votes people received were given by users known as "bid-bots". These bots gave votes depending on the amount of money you transferred to them, so basically anyone could make a 10 word post with $200 in rewards XD.

I have been delighted to see how the whole community has overcome all these problems. The bid-bots stopped being profitable since the devs decided to change the reward curve, but this was certainly not the worst thing that could have happened to us.

The worst thing that could have happened to us is called Justin Sun. It was a severe blow to all the ideals we had built over time, the mission we had as an immutable platform was destroyed and simply our former home, Steem, was left as a joke in front of the entire crypto world.

But at the same time, this was one of the events that taught me the most about Hive.

We lost our previous home, but managed to create a new and improved one. Hive has proven to be the first hard-fork that has outperformed its main chain, there were many, many articles about this and, if I remember correctly, even Vitalik Buterin (creator of ETH) gave his opinion about everything that was going on at the time.

So, was Hive really dead?

No, not at all. In fact, Hive proved to be the first project that successfully overtook the "main chain" (in quotes because I consider us to be the main chain now) and to be a successful project with only the ambition and enthusiasm of a living community. It is true that many people jumped ship by the time things got rough, but over time they managed to come back and it is really gratifying to see how Hive as a whole works now. We are becoming what we wanted to become.

What do I have to do with this?

Well, technically I didn't do anything relevant. I was just a user who witnessed this great amount of events that allowed Hive to be what it is today, and why am I telling you this little story? So you can see the strength of this amazing community.

I was able to witness how all the people who want the goal of an immutable social network to be fulfilled were able to move heaven and sea to create this amazing space, which makes me wonder: will we really give up so easily?

There will always be difficult times, but, a community capable of creating a side project to reach the goal and make it better than the predecessor is quite phenomenal and just goes to show that we are capable of dealing with everything that will most likely come our way in the future.

I have heard people think that Hive is perhaps a "stuck project", because, although it is true that we have not yet reached the "mainstream", there are also many things to polish before the project is known by everyone. Despite all the progress, Hive still has disadvantages, the most important of which I think is the big learning curve that new users have to go through to be able to use this social network.

If we went out to stardom in our current state, yes, we would get a lot of new developers and new users, great, right?

Not so true.

If we reach mainstream in our current state I am sure there would be a big problem with new users adapting to this technology.

But Jean, it's not Hive's fault that people don't know how to use this technology.

That is indeed the case, but people should not be coupled to our product. We have to adapt to the masses, to have a product that even a child can understand how to use it. Hive needs this, an interface as easy as Facebook or a guide that explains in a non-technical and summarized way the advantages of this social network and how to take advantage of this.

I really trust this project and the community behind it, even though it has been 5 years since this project started, we are still in the infant stage, just like many cryptos in the market.

Despite everything I said

Hive is still a fantastic place. It was totally worth investing years in this place to get to the point where I am and there are countless things I am grateful to Hive and all the great community here.

My laptop that I have been using for 3 years I bought it thanks to Hive. There was also a time when my income depended 100% on Hive and I managed to support my family thanks to this. I managed to accomplish my goal of playing the piano thanks to Hive (I mean, I bought a piano thanks to my income here) and I also bought my current phone thanks to Hive (well, specifically Acidyo).

Hive is also a family that simply wants to grow at the right pace. Anyone eager to create connections and meet new people is more than welcome. The unfamiliarity of most users is what often makes it quite "rough" to start on this platform, but, this will be solved in the long run, I am completely sure of this.

The most important thing Hive could have done for me so far is to help me with the situation I had with my uncle a month ago. It's something I never expected to be able to do, but I also never expected the community to come together to support me in any way they could. Hive was the most amazing support I had for this situation because, I'm pretty sure, this is something I would never have gotten on a conventional social network unless I'm an influencer with a huge amount of followers.

I can make a post completely thanking Hive for everything it has brought to my life and it still wouldn't be enough. This is what makes Hive a really special place for people like me.

It is not a platform where you just come, make money and that's it. No, the real value of Hive is much more than that, it goes beyond the economic, it is basically the "real" people you will meet here. I feel that compared to any other social network, most users have real money here and that is why it is more normal to meet other users with real interests and dedicating time to this platform.

This is a special platform, although we have a long way to go to create the full product, currently Hive can represent a fun hobby for some while for others it can be a crucial source of income for their life, but no matter which way you want to use Hive; you are more than welcome to join this family.

Recordar es vivir y creo que este post es la oportunidad perfecta para recordar toda esta travesía.

¿Cómo llegué aquí antes que nada?

Ubiquémonos en el año 2017, específicamente en el mes de diciembre.

¿Qué tiene de especial esta fecha?

¡El Bitcoin alcanzó por primera vez el asombroso valor de 20.000 USD! Esto fue la primera demostración de que las criptomonedas no debían ser tomadas a la ligera. Recuerdo el montón de memes estilo "un diciembre feliz" o "ya no debo trabajar en McDonalds" lol

Ese momento fue increíble para todos los holders y uno inolvidable sin duda. Para mí, gracias a este momento entendí completamente de qué van las criptomonedas, su valor no solamente circula en base a lo monetario, el valor es mucho más que eso.

Mientras revisaba mi galería en Google Photos noté que hay un montón de recuerdos relevantes a mis anteriores tiempos trabajando con las criptomonedas. Me pareció bastante nostálgico ver este screenshot de mi watchlist en el año 2020.

Solo miren los absurdos precios que existían en ese momento, un BTC con un valor de 7k de USD, Cardano 0.04 e incluso ETH con 196$

Hay muchísimas personas que darían muchísimo para comprar en estos precios nuevamente, pero el tiempo no se puede recuperar, por eso digo que esta época de las criptomonedas me enseñó muchísimo sobre este mundo.

Incluso en ese momento existía Hive, pero su precio es irónicamente un poco mayor que el precio actual. Para ese momento apenas era el nacimiento de todo este proyecto, así que apenas comienzo.

Yo nací en Hive bajo el usuario @jeanxd, fue la primera cuenta que creé, pero jamás entendí qué hacer y también hice un par de cosas indebidas sin intención, así que creé otra cuenta por la que la mayoría de personas me han conocido: @flaws.

Tener la cuenta @flaws fue toda una travesía, fue una montaña rusa de emociones y de madurez psicológica que tuvo un impacto enorme en mi vida en general. Comencé a pasos de tortuga, la comunidad anteriormente era INCREÍBLEMENTE diferente a como era ahora, quiero decir, todo funcionaba de manera completamente distinta a lo que estamos acostumbrados justo ahora.

Resumidamente: La mayoría de los votos que recibían las personas eran otorgados por usuarios conocidos como "bid-bots". Estos bots daban votos dependiendo de la cantidad de dinero que les transferías, así que básicamente cualquier persona podía hacer un post de 10 palabras y con $200 en recompensas XD.

Me ha encantando ver cómo toda la comunidad ha sobrepasado todos estos problemas. Los bid-bots dejaron de ser rentables desde que los devs decidieron cambiar la curva de recompensas, pero esto sin duda no fue lo peor que nos pudo haber pasado.

Lo peor que nos pudo haber pasado se llama Justin Sun. Fue un duro golpe para todos los ideales que habíamos construido a lo largo del tiempo, la misión que teníamos como plataforma inmutable fue destruida y simplemente nuestro anterior hogar, Steem, quedó como una broma ante todo el mundo cripto.

Pero al mismo tiempo, este fue uno de los sucesos que más me enseñaron acerca de Hive.

Perdimos nuestro anterior hogar, pero nos las arreglamos para crear uno nuevo y mejorado. Hive ha demostrado ser el primer "hard-fork" que ha superado a su cadena principal, hubieron muchísimos artículos sobre esto y, si mal no recuerdo, incluso Vitalik Buterin (creador de ETH) dio su opinión respecto a todo lo que estaba sucediendo en ese momento.

Entonces, ¿realmente Hive estaba muerto?

No, para nada. De hecho, Hive demostró ser el primer proyecto que sobrepasó exitosamente a la "cadena principal" (entre comillas porque considero que nosotros somos la cadena principal ahora) y ser un proyecto exitoso con solo la ambición y el entusiasmo de una comunidad viva. Es cierto que muchas personas abandonaron el barco para el momento donde las cosas se pusieron rudas, pero con el tiempo lograron volver y es realmente gratificante ver cómo funciona todo Hive ahora. Estamos convirtiéndonos en lo que hemos querido.

¿Qué tengo que ver yo en esto?

Bueno, técnicamente yo no hice nada relevante. Solamente fui un usuario que presenció esta gigantesca cantidad de sucesos que permitieron que Hive sea lo que es hoy en día, ¿y por qué les cuento esta pequeña historia? Para que noten la fortaleza de esta increíble comunidad.

Pude presenciar cómo todas las personas que quieren que el objetivo de una red social inmutable se cumpla fueron capaces de mover cielo y mar para crear este increíble espacio, lo que me hace pensar en: ¿Realmente nos rendiremos tan fácilmente?

Siempre habrán momentos difíciles, pero, una comunidad capaz de crear un proyecto secundario para alcanzar la meta y hacer que este sea mejor que el antecesor es bastante fenomenal y solo demuestra que somos capaces de afrontar todo lo que muy probablemente se nos presente en el futuro.

He escuchado a personas pensar que Hive tal vez es un proyecto estancado, pues, si bien es cierto que aún no hemos alcanzado el "mainstream", también hay muchas cosas que pulir antes de que el proyecto sea conocido por todos. A pesar de todo el progreso, Hive aún tiene desventajas, creo que la más importante de todas estas es la gran curva de aprendizaje que los usuarios nuevos deben ver para poder utilizar esta red social.

Si saliéramos al estrellato en nuestro estado actual, sí, recibiríamos muchos nuevos desarrolladores y nuevos usuarios, genial, ¿cierto?

No es tan cierto.

Si alcanzamos el mainstream en nuestro estado actual estoy seguro de que habría un gran problema con la adaptación de los nuevos usuarios a esta tecnología.

Pero Jean, no es culpa de Hive que las personas no sepan utilizar esta tecnología

Efectivamente es así, pero las personas no deben acoplarse a nuestro producto. Nosotros tenemos que acoplarnos a las masas, tener un producto que hasta un niño pueda entender cómo usarlo. A Hive le hace falta esto, una interfaz tan fácil como Facebook o también una guía que explique de forma no-técnica y resumida las ventajas de esta red social y cómo aprovechar estas ventajas.

De verdad confío en este proyecto y en la comunidad que lo respalda, a pesar de que ya hayan pasado 5 años desde que este proyecto inició, aún estamos en la etapa infantil, al igual que muchísimas criptomonedas en el mercado.

A pesar de todo lo que dije

Hive aún así es un lugar fantástico. Valió completamente la pena invertir años en este lugar para llegar al punto donde estoy y hay infinidad de cosas que le agradezco a Hive y a toda la gran comunidad que hay aquí.

Mi laptop que he utilizado desde hace 3 años la compré gracias a Hive. También hubo un momento donde mis ingresos dependían 100% de Hive y logré mantener a mi familia gracias a esto. Logré cumplir mi meta de tocar el piano gracias a Hive (quiero decir, compré un piano gracias a mis ingresos aquí) y también compré mi actual teléfono gracias a Hive (bueno, específicamente a Acidyo).

Hive también es una familia que simplemente quiere crecer al ritmo adecuado. Cualquier persona con ganas de crear conexiones y conocer nuevas personas es más que bienvenida. El desconocimiento de la mayoría de usuarios es lo que en muchas ocasiones sea bastante "rudo" el comienzo en esta plataforma, pero, esto se solucionará en el largo plazo, estoy completamente seguro de esto.

Lo más importante que pudo haber hecho Hive por mí hasta ahora es ayudarme con la situación que tuve con mi tío hace un mes. Es algo que jamás esperé llegar a hacer, pero tampoco esperaba que la comunidad se uniera para apoyarme en lo que pudieran. Hive fue el soporte más increíble que tuve para esta situación ya que, estoy segurísimo de que esto es algo que jamás hubiese conseguido en una red social convencional a menos que sea un influencer con muchísimos seguidores.

Puedo hacer un post completamente agradeciendo a Hive por todo lo que ha aportado a mi vida y aún así no sería suficiente. Esto es lo que convierte a Hive en un lugar realmente especial para personas como yo.

No es una plataforma en la que simplemente llegas, haces dinero y ya. No, el valor real de Hive va mucho más que eso, va más allá de lo económico, es básicamente las personas "reales" que conocerás aquí. Siento que a comparación de cualquier red social, la mayoría de usuarios tienen dinero real aquí y por esto es más normal conocer a otros usuarios con intereses reales y dedicando tiempo a esta plataforma.

Esta es una plataforma especial, aunque nos falte un largo camino para crear el producto completo, actualmente Hive puede representar un pasatiempo divertido para unos mientras que para otros puede ser una fuente de ingresos crucial para su vida, pero no importa de qué forma quieras usar Hive; eres más que bienvenido a esta familia.
