It's great when you get to combine two or possibly three of your favourite things whilst out shooting. Urbex, models and lightpainting, not necessarily in that order!
A splash of red
In this abandoned building while everyone else was shooting, I had a wander around the site looking for new points of view to shoot. I struck lucky with this shallow channel full of water so I quickly assembled all the elements, including the model, and set off a smoke pellet to provide the atmosphere. Quick and easy to shoot but so effective.
Gina smouldering in the smoke
One of the annoying things about my habit / hobby / pastime of shooting in the dark is that the locations I shoot in find themselves being demolished. (Not because I was there!) The best locations for shooting in the dark in my opinion tend to be abandoned, derelict buildings with textures all over the place.
This was a purely last minute improvised shoot with Gina where we were kicked out of the previous location. I couldn't believe my luck with these fly tipped tyres.... This place is now being developed as a posh housing estate with homes I cannot afford...
Friday night pyromania
Another trip to my current favourite run down and derelict place with a willing victim aka volunteer... (FYI, the building is still standing...)
Shooting in what remains of a WW2 RAF airbase
I managed to strike lucky with these abandoned concrete buildings in the middle of the woods now occupying the site of an old WW2 airbase. I placed a red gelled Godox strobe inside the building and used a reflector to light up Aiden VR here. Not strictly lightpainting I know but the technique used is more or less the same.
Waving lights in the dark
Another enjoyable Saturday evening spent in an abandoned factory; some people go out clubbing or maybe to a fancy restaurant; I prefer to visit a derelict, desolate ruin and wave lights in it...
Red Hot Orb
From a solo trip around an abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere. I bumped in to three friendly abseiling urbex chaps who arrived to abseil and climb the building in the dark; and I thought my hobby was unusual!
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
