When I think of layered food, some of the layered dishes I found in my images archives are:
Good old Italian Lasagne - layers of Pasta sheets, creamy Bechamel Sauce, Bolognaise Mince and loads of cheese.
Indulgent Trifle - Sherry soaked Sponge Cake, Strawberries set in jelly, Creamy Custard and topped with whipped cream, flaked chocolate & berries; looks real pretty in a clear glass bowl.
Scrumptious Crumpet stack layered with Tuna Mayo, Blueberries and cheese.
Pancake stack with Moongh Dhal topped with Mung Bean Sprouts.
What can be better than layering food ingredients that pair well and turn them into one scrumptious dish?
Potatoes, Pumpkin (I used Butternut) and Thyme
The how-to:
Layered Parmesan Potato & Pumpkin
Melt 100 gram Butter & add fresh Thyme & crushed Garlic
Layer the following in a sprayed pan in order given:
- Thinly sliced Potato rounds
- Salt & Pepper
Spoon a little of the melted Butter over - Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Thinly sliced Butternut rounds
- Salt & Pepper
- Melted Butter
- Parmesan Cheese
Repeat with another layer of Potatoes and the works.
Press down firmly, bake for 5 min in 180°C oven.
Cover with foil and bake approx 20-25 min
Remove foil and bake a further 10 minutes
Slice and carefully lift with spatula onto serving plate.
Sprinkle extra Parmesan Cheese on top
