The fact that something bad happens with our car is one of the worst things that can happen are moments of anguish, uneasiness, and pure regrets to know what fault will be happening at the time, and besides this, as you can solve it to get to a nearby place of confidence. It is something usual to talk about my experiences with cars and how hard they can be, but more than telling an anecdote my idea is to talk about how important it is to correct the faults so that this does not happen to you.
Something quite dangerous is the overheating that can happen to your vehicle, these can be due to many things but especially are usually due to carelessness, and not correcting them in time can lead to damage your engine directly, one or more bent valves for example. Several things have happened to me but without a doubt the one I remember the most is the one I will tell you about next, something that happened as a result of electrical damage that you have to be very careful when it happens.
This happened a few years ago, it was leaving for my house from a meeting we were at back then that we hadn't fallen into this pandemic and confinement thing. Generally, I used to be very inexperienced with the subject of vehicles, I was young (teenager) with his first steps driving and believed that having a vehicle was simply... ehm, Pour coolant into the radiator and check the oil measure is correct I guess? Things that happen to us inexperienced teenagers.
Well, the fact is that at that time my vehicle had presented few failures within the possible measure, so I was quite inexperienced with all the art of noises that a vehicle can have. As I said, before going to the meeting I was at home, the meeting of my friends ended relatively early so before taking the car out I just checked the coolant and oil levels, as everything was in the right measure I thought we were ready to go.
Where I live (Anzoátegui, Venezuela) three main cities make up a central part of the state, among them is Barcelona which is where I live, Lechería which is a middle point and Puerto la Cruz which is directly at the other end. My destination was at the other end so my adventure was practically a journey from pole to pole in which if I had an accident it would not be a matter of "a few blocks and I'm home".
So when I left my house the tracks were alone, and the car was running optimally. Sincerely, as always, it never presented failures and continued to roll normally, until that moment I could say that everything was fine and I could optimally reach my destination. At that moment nothing else was going through my head but "I arrived", time to de-stress, chill with friends and talk until it was time to go back.
The long-awaited hour arrives, at this moment nothing else was going through my mind, to be honest I was calm, what bad thing could happen? In my opinion not much (how wrong I was), so after saying goodbye I proceed to start the vehicle and directly start it. This is the first indication of error because I did not even give a few minutes to see how the temperature behaved, it is not something we should do all the time and the fact of doing it does not assure us that later we can not get something but it is quite advisable to do it to see how the temperature of the car behaves as the engine warms up.
Once on the road I just had to go driving, it should be noted that since two weeks ago at that time doing mechanics with my grandfather to his car if I could notice that the speed with which usually worked the electro fan of his vehicle was considerably higher than mine, or what I could perceive from him the times I stopped and heard that it was working. It was a little loose, however, I didn't see those signs as an indication to do preventive maintenance, second mistake made by me since seeing that the power of it was with many failures was a simple cause to stop everything and check it.
So far everything was going as it should, I was arriving and there was a set of cars that were advancing slowly, it was not a traffic light but it was an accident car so as it was in the middle of a busy fast lane at that time it is typical that a queue is formed. It was not stressful for me, I had time even though it was on the verge of dusk.
I have the peculiarity of being a bit restless in queues, looking around, I am not used to looking at my phone or take messages while driving but something that I did by luck and I don't usually do is to see the temperature needle. I know they are going to kill me but I tell myself, this was the third mistake of the evening, the temperature should be the north that we see and the fact of not seeing it and that in reality something happens can make us have a very bad time in the long run.
As you can guess the needle was not in the middle and I just wanted to kill myself, I thought I was in the middle of a bad dream or maybe it was a failure of the indicator but each time it went higher and higher, I only had a moment to think and the first thing that came to my mind was the electro fan which by shot and failure was not heard anywhere.
Wow, the truth is that being in a traffic queue and that the car crashes is not something I wish to anyone because it was a super unpleasant experience. Imagine me standing in the middle of everything in a queue that was for an ACCIDENT and that I also finished in a accident too, I think that not even in the best Hollywood movie we would find that plot lol. The fact is that I had to immediately turn off the vehicle and call my grandfather who fortunately was unoccupied, and I was already going to my location since it was not a long stretch which I could not wait for it to cool down and continue because I was going to have to make at least 3 or 2 more stops that would take me the whole day while the engine cooled down.
Once he arrives, the first thing is to see if the electro worked even alone, usually this is a switch that is in the fuse box and with a clip-on it with a single check of the key passed (I mean in "accessories") should be enough to work alone, this is something quite useful to speed up the process of overheating in case it is not for this piece. As expected the electro did not work even if this part was powered with current, and then I had to tow the car home.
Once at home I took the electro for an electro-mechanic and gave the real fault of what was happening, apparently the plug bulb ended up burning on the way this made the current did not pass and therefore no matter how high the temperature was the electro never turned on, then when I was stopped (as the case of the traffic light) the temperature increased by not having air supply to lighten once the thermal cycle that makes the coolant is completed.
After the tragedy.
Everything connected and working, the main mistake was that indicator which I did not pay attention to and the main reaction was to cause me that bad time. It is always important to be aware of the noises and indicators, and even more so if they have to do with temperature because if I had not paid attention, it is likely that instead of going to the electromechanical I would have had to do the engine completely.
In addition to the coolant and oil level, it is essential to check the state of our system in general, how everything is and that there are no anomalies to avoid accidents. Always preventive and corrective maintenance can save you from trouble, if you got this far thank you very much, and see you in the next one.

Ya el hecho de que algo malo ocurra con nuestro carro es de las peores cosas que pueden suceder, son momentos de angustia, intranquilidad y puros lamentos por saber que falla te estará ocurriendo en el momento, y además de esto como podrás solucionarla para llegar a un lugar cercano de confianza. Ya es algo usual hablar de mis experiencias con los carros y lo duras que pueden llegar a ser, pero más que relatar una anécdota mi idea es hablar de lo importante que es corregir las fallas para que esto no te suceda.
Algo bastante peligroso son los recalentamientos que le pueden suceder a tu vehículo, estos pueden ser a raíz de muchas cosas pero en especial suelen ser por descuidos y por no corregirlos a tiempo pueden desembocar en dañar tu motor directamente, una o varias válvulas dobladas por ejemplo. Me han sucedido varias cosas pero sin duda la que más recuerdo es la que les contaré a continuación, algo que sucedió a raíz de daños eléctricos de los que hay que tener mucho cuidado cuando suceden.
Esto sucedió hace unos años, fue saliendo para mi casa de una reunión en la que estábamos en aquel entonces que no habíamos caído en este asunto de la pandemia y el confinamiento. Generalmente solía ser muy inexperto con el tema de los vehículos, era joven (adolescente) con sus primeros pasos conduciendo y creía que el tener un vehículo era simplemente… ehm, Echar refrigerante al radiador y revisar la medida de aceite esté correcta ¿supongo? Cosas que nos suceden a los adolescentes inexpertos que nos creemos el centro del mundo por tener carro en nuestro poder a esa edad.
Bueno, el hecho es que en aquel entonces mi vehículo había presentado pocas fallas dentro de la medida posible, por lo que estaba bastante inexperto con todo el arte de ruidos que puede tener un vehículo. Como dije, antes de ir a la reunión me encontraba en mi casa, la reunión de mis amigos terminaba relativamente temprano entonces antes de sacar el carro solo revise los niveles de refrigerante y aceite, como todo estaba en la medida correcta pensé que estábamos listos para partir.
En donde vivo (Anzoátegui, Venezuela) existen tres ciudades principales que conforman a una parte central del estado, entre ellas se encuentra Barcelona que es donde vivo, Lechería que es un punto medio y Puerto la Cruz que directamente es el otro extremo. Mi destino era en el otro extremo por lo que mi aventura era prácticamente una ida de polo a polo en la que si me accidentaba no sería cuestión de “unas cuadras y llego a casa”.
Total que cuando salí de mi casa las vías estaban solas, y el carro funcionaba de manera óptima. Sinceramente como siempre, nunca presentaba fallas y seguía rodando normal, hasta ese momento podría decir que todo estaba bien y pude llegar de manera óptima a mi destino. En ese instante no pasaba más nada por mi cabeza que “llegué”, tiempo de desestresarse, un rato de chill con los amigos y hablar hasta que llegara la hora de devolverse.
Llega la tan esperada hora, en este momento no pasaba más nada por mi mente, siéndoles sincero estaba tranquilo ¿Qué cosa mala podría suceder? A mi juicio no mucho (vaya que equivocado estaba), entonces luego de despedidas procedo a encender al vehículo y directamente arrancarlo. Esto es el primer indicativo de error, ya que ni siquiera le di unos minutos para ver cómo se comportaba la temperatura, obviamente no es algo que debemos hacer todo el tiempo y el hecho de hacerlo no nos asegura que más adelante no nos pueda salir algo pero si es bastante recomendable hacerlo para ver como la temperatura del carro se comporta en lo que calienta el motor.
Ya una vez en vía solo me quedaba ir conduciendo, cabe acotar que desde hace dos semanas en aquel entonces haciendo mecánica con mi abuelo a su carro, si pude notar que la velocidad con la que generalmente trabajaba el electro ventilador de su vehículo era considerablemente más alta que la del mío, o lo que podía percibir de él las veces que me detenía y escuchaba que estaba funcionando. Estaba un poco flojo, sin embargo no vi esas señales como un indicativo de hacerle un mantenimiento preventivo, segundo error hecho por mí ya que al ver que la potencia del mismo estaba con muchas fallas era simple causa para parar todo y revisarlo.
Hasta el momento todo marchaba como debería, iba llegando y había un conjunto de carros que avanzaban de a poco, no era un semáforo sino que se trataba de un carro accidentado entonces como estaba en medio de una vía rápida algo concurrida en ese momento lo típico es que se forme una cola. No suponía estrés para mí, tenía tiempo a pesar de que estaba al borde de anochecer.
Tengo la particularidad de en colas ser algo inquieto, ver alrededor, no suelo ser de ver el teléfono o atender mensajes mientras manejo pero algo que por cuestiones de suerte hice y que no suelo hacerlo es ver la aguja de temperatura. Ya sé que me van a matar pero yo mismo me lo digo, este fue el tercer error de la velada la temperatura debe ser el norte que veamos y el hecho de no verla y que en realidad algo suceda puede hacernos pasar un muy mal rato a la larga.
Como supondrán la aguja no estaba en la mitad y yo solo quería matarme, creí que estaba en medio de un mal sueño o quizás era un fallo del indicador pero cada vez subía más y más, solo tuve un instante para pensar y lo primero que me vino a la cabeza fue el electro ventilador el cual por tiro y fallo no se escuchaba por ningún lado, que raro que estando parados y con un tiempo corriendo no lo esté entonces lo que supuse es que era eso.
Wow, la verdad es que estando en una cola de tránsito y que el carro se te accidente no es algo que le deseo a nadie, ya que fue una experiencia superdesagradable. Imagínense yo parado en medio de todo en una cola que era por un ACCIDENTE y que yo también lo termine, creo que ni en la mejor película de Hollywood encontraríamos ese plot lol. El hecho es que tuve que apagar inmediatamente el vehículo y llamar a mi abuelo que afortunadamente se encontraba desocupado, y ya iba para mi ubicación ya que no era un trecho largo el cual no podía esperar que se enfriase y seguir porque iba a tener que hacer por lo menos 3 o 2 paradas más que me tomarían todo el día en lo que cada una se enfriaba el motor.
Ya una vez él llega, lo primero es ver si el electro trabajaba aunque sea solo, generalmente esto es un switch que se encuentra en la fusiblera y con un clip en él con un solo check de la llave pasado (es decir en “accesorios”) debería bastar para que trabajase de manera sola, esto es algo bastante útil para agilizar el proceso de recalentamiento en caso de que no sea por esta pieza. Como era de esperarse el electro no trabajaba aunque esta pieza se encontrara alimentada con corriente, ya ahí solo toco rodar el carro hasta casa con una grúa.
Ya una vez en casa llevé el electro para un electro mecánico y dio con la falla real de lo que sucedía, al parecer el bulbo del enchufe se terminó de quemar en el trayecto esto obviamente hacía que la corriente no pasase y por lo tanto por más temperatura alta que hubiera el electro nunca encendía, entonces cuando me encontraba parado (como el caso del semáforo) la temperatura aumentaba al no tener alimentación de aire para aligerar una vez que el ciclo térmico que hace el refrigerante se completa.
Después de la tragedia.
Todo conectado y funcionando, el principal error fue ese indicativo al cual no hice caso y como reacción principal fue causarme ese mal rato. Siempre es importante estar pendiente de los ruidos e indicativos, y más aún si tienen que ver con temperatura, ya que si no me hubiera fijado lo más probable es que en vez de ir al electromecánico me hubiera tocado hacer el motor por completo.
Además del nivel de refrigerante y el aceite es parte fundamental ver el estado de nuestro sistema en general, como todo se encuentra y que no existan anomalías para evitar los accidentes.
