Argiope pulchella Welcomed Me.

I am yet complete my travel stories. After getting back to home my parents were happy seeing me well and good and to my surprise I found a new ally waiting for me on my terrace. Infact in 3 days my terrace become a Spider World.

Apart from other common species, I get fond of this particular one. It has unique colourful body, that make it very attractive.

Argiope pulchella is a species of the orb-weaver spider family, Araneidae. It ranges from India to China and can be found on Java. It is a synanthropic species, often living in habitats associated with humans. Wikipedia

Out of curiosity, I checked upon it harmfulness. But found very interesting thing about this colourful species. Argiope are harmless to humans. A bite by the black and yellow garden spider is comparable to a bee sting, with redness and swelling.

Further, these spider remain dependent on flying insects such as, grasshoppers, wasps, bees, and flies. They normally lie down in wait,like in a head-down position towards the center of their web. This is basically a trip for an insect to get stuck in the sticky silk portion of the web.

They looks adorable. But harmless, they are put up their web on my basil plant. It made a large web and simply laid down at the centre in head down position, waiting for their prey. It looks good and a new member on my terrace.
