I have found a new colony of assassin bugs in my garden, I haven't seen them for a while; when we read or hear killer bugs I am sure that more than one is alarmed, however, they are harmless both for people and for our plants, because unlike other bugs, such as stink bugs, for example, these do not feed on the sap of our plants and neither are they like the domestic bugs that usually bite people and transmit diseases, they feed on other animals that turn out to be pests for our crops, so, when I find a colony of these in my garden I just let them be happy and live quietly.
As they grow they spread out and I don't even see them in my garden anymore. I called my attention in this colony, that although surely all these nymphs belong to the same litter, not all have the same size, as we can see some more developed than others, such as these that I show you in these first two photographs, if you look at the following pictures, you will see that not all have the same size.
As I mentioned before, as they grow they spread out, and if you look, you can notice that the nymphs that are more developed and already have the shape of a bedbug are farther away from the colony, this is because they are beginning to separate from them. One of the distinguishing characteristics of the assassin bugs is their long beak, which allows them to extract blood from the insects on which they prey.
The assassin bugs belong to the family Reduviidae which includes approximately 7000 species, and where we can also find the bugs that transmit Chagas disease, so it is very important to know how to differentiate them because those that transmit this disease and are also called vinchucas have different characteristics to the assassin bugs. Next, I show you other pictures I took of this small colony.

Me he encontrado una nueva colonia de chinches asesinas en mi jardín, hacia rato que no las veía; cuando leemos o escuchamos chinches asesinas estoy segura de que más de uno se alarma, sin embargo, son inofensivas tanto para las personas como para nuestras plantas, pues a diferencia de otras chinches, como las apestosas por ejemplo, estas no se alimentan de la savia de nuestras plantas y tampoco son como las chinches domesticas que son las que suelen picar a las personas y transmitir enfermedades, estas se alimentan de otros animales que resultan ser plagas para nuestros cultivos, así que, cuando me encuentro una colonia de estas en mi jardín simplemente las dejo ser feliz y vivir tranquilas.
A medida que van creciendo se van esparciendo e incluso no las vuelvo a ver en mi jardín. Me llamo la atención en esta colonia, que aunque seguramente todas estas ninfas pertenecen a una misma camada, no todas tienen el mismo tamaño, pues podemos ver algunas más desarrolladas que otras, como por ejemplo estas que les muestro en estas dos primeras fotografías, si se fijan en las siguientes fotografías, verán que no todas tienen el mismo tamaño.
Como les comenté antes, a medida que van creciendo vas esparciéndose, y si se fijan, pueden notar que las ninfas que están más desarrolladas y ya tienen la forma de una chincha están más alejadas de la colonia, esto es porque ya comienzan a separarse de ellos. Una de las características distintivas de las chinches asesinas, es su largo pico, este es el que les permite extraer la sangre de los insectos de los cuales es depredador.
Las chinches asesinas, pertenecen a la familia Reduviidae que incluye aproximadamente 7000 especies, y en donde podemos encontrar también las chinches que transmiten la enfermedad de Chagas, por ello es muy importante saber diferenciarlas, pues las que transmiten esta enfermedad y que son también llamadas vinchucas tienen características diferentes a las chinches asesinas. A continuación, les muestro otras fotografías que le hice a esta pequeña colonia.
