Hoplitis Bee on Dry Twig

IMG_20210725_155318.jpg

I often see bees perched on flowers, they suck the nectar of one flower and then move on to another flower. It's a habit carried out by honey bees or wasps.

This is a bee I captured a few days ago. It was perched on a dry twig, while its jaws were biting the twig. I think this is a Hoplitis bee or commonly known as a leafcutter bee belonging to family Megachilidae.

It has green compound eyes, light brown hair, black abdomen with brown bands, and has orange hair under the abdomen. Leafcutter bees have a habit of sleeping on dry wood twigs.

Oh my! Looks like I accidentally woke him who was fast asleep.
