Meet the Staff of TheTerminal

It has been a while since we talked about the Staff members of @theterminal and what tasks each of them do. There have been some changes since we last did a post like this, so without further ado, here we go!

@xcountytravelers ~ On 09-Oct-2018, Ren & Scott began the "Hey! Have Ya Met" (HHYM) project from their own blog, @xcountytravelers. They scoured the #introduceyourself tag every day looking for new users who seemed sincere and were not plagiarizing. These users were featured in a series of Curation Posts. It wasn't long before Ren realized that a place for these new arrivals to ask questions and receive one-on-one assistance was in order. So, on 07-Dec-2018, she launched TheTerminal server on Discord and asked @brittandjosie and @thekittygirl to come onboard immediately to assist in its launch. Two days later on 09-Dec-2018, the @heyhaveyamet project was moved from @xcountytravelers's blog to its own separate account.

Ren's brain seldom seems to shutdown. She is always thinking, with an endless cascade of ideas always flowing similar to the waterfalls she admires. She really should have her own personal secretary to follow her around, taking notes, and passing them off to her own personal staff to implement. Her creativity is amazing! And we have her to thank for the brilliant idea of TheTerminal which has helped educate so many on Hive to learn the etiquette and workings of blockchain technology and fostered numerous friendships along the way. Thank you, Ren! 💜

@brittandjosie ~ Britt is so dynamic and self-driven that it's difficult to know where to start listing what she does. She does work for the @heyhaveyamet project as well as TheTerminal Discord server. She helps to find new arrivals to Hive thru their #introduceyourself posts and leaves comments welcoming them to the Hive blockchain and inviting them to join TheTerminal if they feel so inclined.

Once folks arrive in TheTerminal Discord server, Britt does everything she can to answer questions, offer advice, and provide encouragement to everyone. She was in-charge of the RedfishRally, a month-long intensive training course for those new to the blockchain. She watches all the chats, reading back on a daily basis to see what happened in her absence when her job and duties to family take her offline for a bit. She keeps us all on-track by providing reminders of what needs to be done, and spurs us forward with new ideas that easily come from her creative mind. She keeps a finger on the pulse of everything happening in the server, making sure that the project is in good shape, healthy, and thriving.

What is phenomenal is how she does everything with warmth, grace, and a positive attitude! Britt also manages to blog on a daily basis, and is always a high-ranker in the Engagement League as an avid commenter on others' posts. She has been an absolute delight as a coworker in our Discord server. She can be firm-but-fair when necessary, but mostly she spreads cheer, sunshine, and inspiration everywhere she goes! She is always thinking about others and is more-than-happy to do whatever she can to help. Everyone loves Britt! 💗

@thekittygirl ~ Kitty is the Server Chick. As a child, she was always asking, "Why?" because she truly wanted to know, not to be annoying as some kids do. Her love for learning led to her becoming somewhat of a geekette, so figuring out how to set up and maintain a Discord server was easy for her. Britt has described Kitty as a helicopter, quietly watching over the server and all the other components of @theterminal and its related work. This comes easy for her, too, as she has served as a Manager, Projects Coordinator, and Supervisor in her professional careers.

Having joined the blockchain in 2017 and spent many hours networking with others and participating in many live-chats about the blockchain on Discord, Kitty has learned many things. She is quick to remember details, or at least remember where to find details needed, so @enginewitty gave her the nickname KittyPedia. Like Britt, she also scrolls completely through the chats in @theterminal's Discord server every time she comes online to see what happened in her absence. This enables her to find questions that were asked but not answered and sometimes is able to provide more insight into questions that were answered. She also monitors the server daily to ensure organization, consistency, and a smooth experience for all.

Besides answering questions in chat, one of Kitty's personal projects for @theterminal is maintaining the #answers-to-questions channel in the server where the most common answers are being archived for review by everyone. This provides a valuable resource for blockchain users as well as the Staff of the server, making things easier for everyone.

@jamerussell ~ TheTerminal's Discord had only been open for about a week when James joined us, so he has been a longtime member. From day one, he was always active in the chats and proved to be very helpful. We jokingly call him our "Scary Biker Dude" because he is a motorcycle enthusiast with a rough exterior and a bodacious ZZ-Top style beard, but he has a quite pleasant personality and a good heart inside. He is full of patience for helping folks and is quick with screenshots and instructions for those who need them. He likes to help folks who put forth some effort, and is firm-but-fair with those who don't.

He worked in our Discord server as a Moderator for a couple of years before being promoted to Admin. Like most of the Staff, he assists with everything from welcoming newly-joined folk to answering questions in our chats. He is very skilled in maintaining lists and references, and is quick to pull information when needed. He is also very good at proofreading and lets folks know when they have missspellledd a word or when we need to tweak a translation for our ESL (English as Second Language) members.

James is heavily involved in our sister-project, @heyhaveyamet and publishes the daily curation post of new Hiveans. We do not wish to feature bad-actors in our curations, so James plays a Sherlock Holmes role in scrutinizing new accounts for signs of plagiarism, scamming, account-farming, etc. before selecting them to be featured. He also checks for a reasonable amount of effort as well. He spends quite a bit of time every day perusing the #introduceyourself posts, researching the accounts, and compiling the curation post. His efforts in this vein (and everything else he does!) are truly amazing and certainly appreciated!

@wesphilbin ~ Wes is our Public Relations guy who is always building bridges between @theterminal and other communities and projects. He is in at least 100 Discord servers, the maximum that is currently allowed unless one goes "premium" with a Nitro subscription, and we wouldn't be surprised if he has joined more. He loves to meet new people, research new projects, and is always thinking how @theterminal and @heyhaveyamet can work together with those other projects in a symbiotic relationship. He is often the first to report new things with "Have you seen this...?" messages to us.

Wes has an indefatigable positive attitude, despite challenges with his health and other issues in his personal and family life. In 2019, he launched the ThoughtfulDailyPost initiative to foster positivity on-chain with inspirational, upbeat, thoughtful posts. Dozens of people, if not hundreds, have used his #thoughtfuldailypost tag since then in their own posts to spread more uplifting and pensive content to the blockchain. Wes has the kindest heart, is very introspective, and has a great diplomatic nature.

Wes pops into the Discord server periodically throughout the day and night. If he has trouble sleeping, he usually slips in, quietly, to see if there is anything or anyone that might need attention. He also wears many caps in the server, greeting members, answering questions, helping those who need one-on-one assistance, and is without doubt one of the most patient people we have on Staff. Wes is awesome!

@justclickindiva ~ Chris became a member of our Staff in a rather unusual way. She joined our Discord server as a newbie to Hive. She was full of questions, as most are when new to the blockchain, and absorbed the information we gave her like a sponge. She joined the month-long intensive program we call the Redfish Rally and graduated with flying colors and a stronger account. We had another Moderator at the time (@iamraincrystal) who had graduated the Rally with flying-colors, too, and then became one of the instructors. Sometime later, @iamraincrystal's job became very demanding of her, then the worldwide COVID event complicated her life tremendously. We asked Chris to step in temporarily to assist with the Rally until RainCrystal could return, but the return never happened and we definitely miss RainCrystal. So, we asked Chris to remain on-staff, and she agreed, thankfully!

Chris worked tirelessly beside @brittandjosie to conduct the Redfish Rally each month, plan the challenges and lessons, and assist the Redfish in chat whenever needed. She also served as a judge for the contests and kept tabs on everything. She was also quick to note when our Redfish had graduated to Minnows and adjusted their roles accordingly. While working with the user list of server members, she began to note when members ceased being active and had diverted their attention to other projects, and spend a good bit of time assisting in keeping our Member List current. She has always been quick to offer advice for growing accounts via PowerUps, networking with others, and producing quality content.

The Redfish Rally is currently on "hold" status, as Chris and Britt began to feel burn-out from the intensive work. With her careful, analytical mind, Chris took it upon herself to continue scanning posts of the Redfish that are in our server. She offers helpful advice in properly sourcing images, checks for plagiarism and other issues, and makes stylistic suggestions to improve their posts. The same as the other Staff, she wants to see everyone who comes through our doors to succeed and we are very blessed to have her with us!

@drakernoise ~ Draker had not been in the server very long before he began to help people, without our ever asking him to do so! He is fluent in both English and Spanish and has been a good liaison with our Spanish-speaking members. He is also a very patient soul and has worked one-on-one with many in the chats to provide assistance on a number of topics. He also has the distinction of being the Staff member with the longest time on the blockchain, having come on-board in the Summer of 2016 before the rest of us even knew the blockchain existed.

He is a very humble individual. Initially, we had made Draker a Greeter. Later, when we wanted to promote him to Moderator, he said he didn't want that title and was happy with the 'Greeter' title. That was when we quietly assigned some Moderator permissions to the 'Greeter' position so he could remain humble but still be able to assist us further. I don't even know if he realized that we did that. 😁 LOL

He recently started taking additional classes at his university as well as maintaining his full-time job so we don't see him as often as we once did. However, we are keeping his seat warm for when he returns and anxiously awaiting that day! We love @drakernoise 💜

@stayten ~ Stayten is the newest member of our Staff. He really came in with a bang to our server, too! From the moment he arrived, he immersed himself into the chats and began making friends. He had many questions but has proven to be a very fast learner and before long was helping answer questions in the server. Like @drakernoise before him, he began greeting all the new members, on his own initiative, and helped make them feel welcome!

He helps to keep our chats light-hearted and fun, and is quick to let everyone know how appreciated they are. The same as Wes, he keeps an upbeat, positive attitude regardless of what is going on in his personal life. He is also very thoughtful, and weighs what he says before he speaks, which is always a good sign for a potential Staff member. After seeing how helpful he is, and after a few months to be sure he was going to stay with us, we offered him the position of Greeter, which he gladly accepted!

In @theterminal's server, 'Greeter' was a rather simple position at first, but gradually grew into more of a Junior Moderator position. So Stayten also helps us watch the chats to ensure things remain family-friendly, that the required support-for-others is being practiced by all members, assists us in watching for Redfish-to-Minnow achievements by members, and helps answer questions from folks on the blockchain. We are fortunate to have someone as dedicated and enthusiastic as Stayten on our Staff!

Our Staff is such a fantastic team that works together well. The current Staff has a collective of 300 months of experience on the blockchain, and that isn't counting Staff members that have moved on to other projects!

The success of @theterminal is a product of countless hours of volunteer work by our fabulous and dedicated Staff, all of whom could never be fairly repaid for what they have done. It is also a 24/7 endeavor. The Staff does this as a remembrance of the help each received when they came on-board the blockchain, and attempting to make the onboarding process easier for those coming behind them.

Besides the Staff, @theterminal and @heyhaveyamet also owes a debt of gratitude to all who have assisted with delegations, currently or in the past! A list of our current delegators appears below in alphabetical order. Thank you!

INTERESTED IN DELEGATING to @theterminal or @heyhaveyamet?
This would enable us to connect and engage with even more new Hive accounts! If so, please contact Britt or Kitty in The Terminal's Discord server or down below in the comments, or by clicking the "quick-delegation" links, below. We appreciate your interest in helping us help others.

Whether one has been on the blockchain for three days or three years, there are always questions! @theterminal, founded in December 2018, is a project that answers questions people have about the workings and etiquette of participating on the Hive blockchain. We answer questions about use of the Discord app, as well. A few users of Hive's 'legacy blockchain' have also sought assistance. Everyone is welcome.

Those who delegate to @theterminal will be awarded a "Terminal Supporter" badge on their blockchain profile, the "Patron" role in our Discord server, and our humble gratitude.

The sister-project to TheTerminal is @heyhaveyamet (HHYM), founded in October 2018 and still going strong. The goal of HHYM is to look through the #introduceyourself posts of those new to the blockchain and welcome the new arrivals and gather links to their introductory posts in a daily curation post. New accounts are carefully checked for effort, plagiarism, and account-farming before being featured.

Those who delegate to @heyhaveyamet will be awarded a "Terminal Supporter" badge on their blockchain profile, the "Patron" role in our Discord server, and our humble gratitude.
