Street Art #279 LMNOPI, Montreal

With the winter coming to an end, we still had snowflakes over Montreal last weekend but today sunny and almost hot 15° :-), we can admire collages and other wheatpastes made during this period. It's true that it's easier to work inside to design your work than to work directly outside as the spray/ graffiti requires when the temperature drops below -10 °.

Today, some collages done by LMNOPI, artist and activist from Vermont (US) :

WHERE

The first time I saw these collages was in February on the walls of the Eva B store, second-hand clothes with truly original decoration. At the second floor window, they reproduced the scene where Michael Jackson almost dropped his baby from the window of his hotel...

2015 Boulevard Saint-Laurent, Canada.

But you can see these collages all over Montreal especially around Saint Laurent Boulevard.

WHO

Born in 1964 in Niskayuna (NY, US) LMNOPI is an artist living now in Southern Vermont (US). She studied Painting and Printmaking at SUNY Purchase (graduating in 2005).

Her works are essentially painting (you can see some of her paintings on her Instagran account) and printmaking in a realistic style. Her collages looks like portrait done in pastel.

LMNOPI is very involved in social issues involving the First Nations (but not only) in North America. When the indigenous crisis occurred in Canada at the beginning of the year (with the passage of an oil pipeline in British Columbia on ancestral lands - more about it on CBC.ca), her collages began to appear on the walls of Montreal in support of Canadian communities blocking railways across the country.

Some people were against these blockages because they slowed down the country's economic activity (Covid was still unknown in the country at that time but also with the Idle No More movement). The collages were sometimes torn off quickly as you can see.
