Cherries 🍒 😋

I love fresh fruit and have been enjoying the cherries this season!

These are "sweet cherries" from a Prunus avium tree, which I bought at my local grocery store. They are so good, I might have to buy more next time I go shopping for food! Oddly, though, cherries are only good sources of dietary fiber and Vitamin-C, with only trace amounts of other nutrients. But, they are delicious, nonetheless.

Most cultivars of cherry trees need a cool winter to provide fruit:

...in order to break dormancy, blossom, and set fruit, the winter season needs to have at least 800 hours where the temperature is below 45 °F (7 °C).[1]

In the US, cherries are mostly grown in the states of Washington, Oregon, California, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Traverse City, Michigan, calls itself the "Cherry Capital of the World." Cherries also thrive in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia, the Mediterranean regions of Europe and some parts of the Middle East and Australia.
