WHAT IS BP.JSON AND WHY DO BLOCK PRODUCERS NEED TO HAVE IT?

header 1 facebook.jpgYou might have seen some Block Producers stating that their BP.JSON files are on their website or on the EOS Blockchain itself, but what is it and why do Block Producers need to do this?

Recently, eosrio created a tool that defines the standard for Block Producer information on the EOS Blockchain. In short, every Block Producer Candidate needs to upload their BP.JSON file onto their companies landing page as well as on the EOS Blockchain itself which contains information such as; producer account info, producer public key, logos, location, social media links and node information.

This is uploaded to boost transparency and trust for each Block Producer from the community as well as providing the community with contact information of Block Producers in case of an emergency.

BP.JSON files are extremely important to verify the identity of Block Producers and provide the community with the necessary information in the case of an emergency.

The majority of top 21 Block Producer candidates have honored the BP.JSON standard, with roughly 30 Block Producers and candidates either not uploading their BP.JSON yet or rejecting to honor the standard due to a number of reasons that have not yet been made public.

Compliance is key in any decentralized ecosystem and Block Producers, like EOS.fish that have provided their BP.JSON are leading the way in creating a more transparent and trustworthy environment within the EOS community.
