Bowling tag team madness and my fall from grace

So you may recall that I was the champion of DUMBO (DaNang Underground Moronic Bowling Organization) for quite some time. I defended my belt of 9 weeks and that was a record that I think will probably stand for a while. I'm not sure about this though sine the current champion does appear to be a bit better than most everyone else in the league.

There are other levels of awards though and most of them didn't change hands at all even though some of the bouts were close

We've got the men and women's singles championship belts and neither of those changed hands. The men's game was a bit of a blowout but the women's championship came down to the 10th frame. The challenger was having a better overall game and in order to pull it back the champion had to get a mark in order to have a chance. She got a spare despite the fact that she had done very little in the way of strikes or spares at all up to that point and then on the extra ball in the 10th she still needed to knock down at least 3 pins. She knocked down 8. It was the best game of the day actually and was a nail-biter from start to finish. The men's competition ended up being won by over 80 points... it was a very one-sided affair.

The "gobbler" is an award for getting a turkey which is 3 strikes in a row. Normally this award changes hands at least once a week but not this week. No one managed a turkey in singles play, although one group did get one in tag team play but there is no award for this.

"Andang" did not manage to win the tag team medals though as they were bested by "MgNeally" who played more consistently well a few lanes away. I didn't get to play at all because we had an odd number of people and as the commissioner, i elect to stand down in these situations for the most part.

They kept playing like this for the last frames as well, I just didn't get a photo

There was a new award that was introduced into the pool of awards this past week and that is the beer.

This is a strange award and it isn't one that you necessarily want to win. The only way to win a beer is if you have 2 pins remaining that are close together but have a gap between them.

The only way to win the beer is if you manage to bowl between the two pins but not knock down either one of them. This happens a lot less than you might be thinking and it is up to the lane where this happens to determine whether or not the pins qualify for a "beer bowl." If the person nails the gap without hitting either pin, the other people on the lane have to buy him or her a beer. It's not a big deal since beers are like a dollar at the lanes.

Dumbo's numbers were actually down a bit this week but I'm not really going to complain about that because we have a critical mass of about 25 before we would have to start stacking the lanes with what I consider to be too many people. I find more than 3 per lane to be far too time-consuming and not a great deal of fun.

Oh, and on a personal note I probably need to get in the lanes on a non regulation day and practice a bit. My average of 142 has dropped at least 25 pins in the past 3 weeks and that is unacceptable.
