Chapter 87: There are Three of Us!

The next morning, Orcille made pancakes for Daily and himself. Daily was in an upbeat mood.

‘You seem happy today,’ said Orcille.

‘You make really nice pancakes,’ said Daily as he eyed the stack of pancakes.

‘Thanks. The key ingredient is blended banana,’ said Orcille proudly.

‘I usually only have cereal and Sape milk,’ said Daily as he pointed towards a kitchen cupboard. ‘It’s in the box with the stripy Sape on it.’

‘It’s the least I can do for you,’ said Orcille.

Daily continued grinning as he ate his pancakes.

‘There’s something else,’ queried Orcille. ‘I doubt my pancakes could elevate your mood by this much.’

‘There is something else,’ said Daily. ‘Today is a bad day to work.’

‘Do tell?’ asked Orcille.

‘The Carvaress twins will be at the laboratory today,’ said Daily. ‘They are a nightmare.’

‘It’s a big laboratory. I’m sure you could avoid them,’ said Orcille.

‘Not today. I’m testing mechanical arms,’ said Daily. ‘It’s a magnet to the twins.’

‘I guess I’m doing you a favour,’ said Orcille.

‘Strangely, yes,’ replied Daily.

After breakfast, Orcille tied Daily to a loop that enabled him to move between the lounge and bathroom. Orcille gagged him again and left to return to the laboratory. Orcille shapeshifted into Daily as he left the apartment.

Orcille had some idea where the mechanical arms would be tested. On reaching the laboratory, Orcille took the lift to the fourth floor. He walked to the back of the building. He entered through a door into a room full of different mechanical devices. They ranged from robotic exoskeletons to miniature robots.

Orcille walked over to the robotic arms. He scanned Daily’s security pass to access the controls for them. Orcille began testing the arms. He threw balls through hoops, threaded small objects through small holes, and built a wall containing hundreds of miniature bricks in just a few seconds.

After playing around with the mechanical arms for about an hour, the twins showed up. They walked over to Orcille.

‘Hey Daily, wanna let us have a go?’ asked Yassmay.

‘Wish I could, but this work is critical to the success of this organisation,’ replied Orcille.

‘If that were true, you wouldn’t be doing it,’ said Yassmay as she pushed in front of Orcille to grab the controls.

‘You are so beautiful,’ said Orcille as he looked at Yassme.

‘I know, just a benefit of being me,’ said Yassme with a giggle.

‘You could work on your humility,’ said Orcille. Yassme frowned.

‘I just built a house in 37.6 seconds,’ said Yassmay. ‘I doubt you could do that in an hour.’

‘I bet I could, and I bet I could beat your time as well,’ said Orcille.

‘Bet accepted,’ said Yassmay. ‘If you win, we buy you ice cream, and if we win, you buy both of us ice creams.’

Orcille took the controls and began to build the same house that Yassmay did. ‘Yes, 36.8 seconds,’ said Orcille. ‘I’m looking forward to my ice cream.’

‘I’d like to continue our bet,’ said Yassme. ‘If I beat your score, you buy both of us ice creams, and if I don’t, we buy you a double scoop of premium ice cream.’

Both twins smiled sweetly at Orcille. Orcille sighed, ‘Sure, go for it.’

Yassme took the controls. ‘Bingo,’ shouted Yassme. ‘I did it in just 32.4 seconds.’

Both twins danced around in circles, chanting ice cream.

Orcille took the twins to the ice cream stand in the building opposite the laboratory. Orcille ordered three ice creams using Daily’s identity, while the twins sat at a table.

‘I have something important I need to tell both of you,’ said Orcille, as he placed the ice creams down on the table.

‘Sure, brother,’ they both said as they chuckled.

Orcille quickly glanced at his reflection in the window. He was still Daily.

‘Wow, you recognised me,’ said Orcille.

‘We have a feel for you now,’ said Yassme.

‘I do for you too,’ said Orcille softly.

Yassmay began to frown. Yassme noticed. ‘What’s up?’ she asked Yassmay.

‘Maybe not our brother,’ said Yassmay. ‘Maybe our sister.’

‘Enough of that,’ snapped Orcille angrily.

‘I’m sorry,’ said Yassmay as she reached out to touch Orcille’s hand.

‘It’s alright. That’s in the past, and it needs to stay there,’ said Orcille.

Yassme reached to touch Yassmay’s and Orcille’s hands. They held hands for a few moments.

‘Let’s eat before it melts,’ said Yassmay. The three began eating their ice cream.

‘I need to talk to you about dad,’ said Orcille.

‘You made him very angry,’ said Yassme.

‘Yes, I did,’ said Orcille.

‘Why did you do that?’ asked Yassmay.

‘I wanted to be me, but he could never accept that,’ said Orcille.

‘That’s his fault, not yours,’ said Yassmay firmly.

‘I’m scared the same could happen to both of you,’ said Orcille.

‘Daddy loves us,’ said Yassme.

‘I’m sure he does, but he is unwell,’ said Orcille.

‘Then we can make him better,’ said Yassme.

‘I have seen every side of him. The good, the bad, the pained, and the evil,’ said Orcille. ‘I want nothing more than to have the best of him, but that’s gone. Anything that appears good isn’t real.’

‘No, that can’t be right,’ said Yassme indignantly.

‘He’s been using us for his own means for a long time,’ said Yassmay as she put her arm around Yassme.

‘I’m going to be in the Capital Region for a few more days,’ said Orcille. ‘When I leave, I want you to come with me.’

Yassme shook her head. ‘We need some time to talk this through,’ said Yassmay.

‘Of course, this would have taken both of you by surprise,’ said Orcille.

Yassmay nodded.

‘Would you like to come back to the laboratory to help with some testing?’ Orcille asked the twins.

‘Yeah, that’ll be fun,’ said Yassmay.

They returned to the laboratory, where they played around with the mechanical arms for a few hours. The twins left before Pardi came looking for them. They did not want to alert him, in any way, to Orcille’s presence.

After work, Orcille went to the medical centre to steal some medication. He was running low. He used Daily’s security pass to enter through the Carvaress section. Orcille headed down the corridor to where he believed they stored the medication he needed.

As he walked down the corridor, a sign caught his eye. It read, ‘Child and Baby Abortion Selection (CABAS)’, and underneath, in a small box, was the word ‘Ueban’.

‘This is the Cabas Ranch or a Cabas Ranch,’ said Orcille to himself.

He wanted to walk past, but he was drawn back to the room. He was curious, as this was what he was led to believe he had cooked for the Inquisitives.

Orcille entered the room. In the first row he encountered, there were many small containers of brown liquid. In the second, third, and fourth rows, there were containers of aborted babies of various sizes. The containers were also filled with dark brown or pinkish liquids. In the fifth row, the babies were much bigger. They appear to have been killed at birth or within the first few days of being delivered. It appeared that this was where the babies were kept and possibly seasoned before being sent to be cooked in the kitchens or directly to the customers to cook themselves.

Orcille did not stay in the room for long. He was disgusted by what he saw. He was even more disgusted with his father and all the elite Linap that craved the taste of these babies. Sapiens meant nothing to them. They had no higher regard for them than they did for Sapes.

Orcille was disgusted with himself for not knowing the origin of the meat before promoting it to the Inquisitives. Even if Pardi had not swapped the meat, he knew he would still have been eating children. Either way, it made him a cannibal.

Orcille continued down the corridor until he reached the medicine storeroom. The room from this side of the building was not even locked. Orcille grabbed as much of the medication that he needed as he could. He left the medical centre and returned to Daily’s apartment.
