Chapter 106: The Regions’ Final Stand

The Sentray had reached several of the other regions. One of the first regions they reached was West. Jennifer controlled a few local enforcer vehicles stationed in West. Jennifer sent the flying vehicles out of the region in an attempt to stop the Sentray from breaching the region’s walls. They fired at them. This injured several of them. However, none were injured to the extent that would prevent their imminent assault on the region.

Several of the Sentray responded by hurling rocks and boulders at the flying vehicles. Several of them were hit and destroyed. The remaining flying vehicles were soon out of ammunition. Jennifer used them like kamikaze drones by crashing them into the injured Sentray. This killed almost a dozen Sentray, but now West had almost no defence left to fight the several hundred remaining Sentray.

The Sentray scaled the walls in a similar manner to how they did in the Capital region. Some of them climbed up onto the rail tracks to jump in. This caused the tracks to bend and eventually break. The pro-enforcer group of residents had armed themselves with weapons they had taken off the dead enforcers. They began firing at the Sentray. This assault had very little impact on them.

The Sentray ploughed into this crowd, killing them with ease. The building that Merida and Jaslene were being held in was damaged. Merida and Jaslene crawled through a gap in the wall.

‘We need to go somewhere safe,’ said Jaslene to Merida.

‘That is not necessary,’ said Merida. ‘I will bring these insolent beasts to heel.’

Jaslene turned invisible and ran off down the path in the opposite direction from the Sentray. Merida walked towards the nearest Sentray she could see.

‘Stop beast. Stop now,’ shouted Merida.

The Sentray turned to face her.

‘You and your kind will cease this appalling behaviour at once,’ continued Merida. ‘By Linap, you will find me merciful if you repent your atrocities.’

The Sentray grabbed Merida. He raised her up to the same level as his head. Several other Sentray looked in the direction of Merida.

‘You will turn around and return to the depths of the ocean where you spawned,’ cried out Merida.

The Sentray holding Merida looked at another slightly larger Sentray standing nearby. That Sentray nodded. Merida noticed the nod. She thought it was a sign the Sentray were going to obey her instructions. Instead, the Sentray holding her bit her head off. The Sentray threw her body into the mouth of the nearby Sentray. Neither Sentray appeared to be satisfied with how she tasted.

The other regions, which were only defended by the local enforcer vehicles, were falling very quickly. Their weapon systems were incapable of killing the Sentray. The only success they had was by slamming the flying vehicles directly into them at top speed. This resulted in killing less than a dozen Sentray at each region.

Thousands of Sentray emerged from the ocean in the south. They joined forces with the Sentray, returning from the Capital Region.

The returning Capital Region flying vehicles were having much more success against the Sentray. Direct strikes from one or two rockets were enough to kill one of them.

In the Carrington Region. The Sentray had just breached the walls when the Capital Region flying vehicles arrived. They approached the Sentray from behind. They fired their weapons, killing the Sentray with ease. Sentray tried to fight back by hurling whatever they could grab, but to no avail.

Within an hour, all the invading Sentray were killed. The residents of Carrington cheered as the last Sentray fell dead in the road. The flying vehicles had exhausted all their weapons. Jennifer recalled them to Cellrebrum. The residents on the streets put their political differences aside to celebrate the defeat of the Sentray.

These celebrations were short-lived. Less than an hour later, more Sentray had emerged from the ocean in the east. Now that the flying vehicles had left, Carrington had almost no defence against the Sentray. The region was completely destroyed, and the residents were massacred within hours.

Despite Lily’s desire to restrict the use of flying vehicles, Jennifer chose to send them all back out under her control. The early success of these vehicles could not be entirely replicated everywhere. Sentray were climbing to the tops of buildings. They used them to launch themselves at the flying vehicles. This was bringing several of them down.

The remaining flying vehicles did not have sufficient ammunition to defeat the Sentray in these regions. These vehicles were capable of sufficiently increasing altitude to escape the Sentray. Eventually, all these vehicles ran out of ammunition and could no longer attack the Sentray.

There was no spare ammunition in Cellrebrum to replenish these vehicles. The remaining ammunition was needed to protect Cellrebrum from the Sentray when they arrived. There was additional ammunition in the Capital Region, but Jennifer was not sure it would still be accessible. The Capital Region had taken significant damage from the first Sentray attack.

Jennifer hacked into one of the giant flying machines that dropped chemicals on Adoy and Jeed. She aimed to use it to collect ammunition from the Capital Region. She sent Mida, along with ten mind-controlled prisoners, in a flying vehicle. They were to catch up and board the giant flying machine. Their role was to help load the ammunition into the giant flying machine and then to bring it back to Cellrebrum.
