For this month's artist highlight we will be discussing Rembrandt, the master artist of the Dutch Golden Age.

Ten interesting facts about Rembrandt

  1. He was born in 1606 in Leiden, which is now the Netherlands
  2. His full name is Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn
  3. He was the youngest of at least 10 children
  4. He took his first students at the age of 22
  5. He never went abroad
  6. He did a lot of self portraits, about 40 paintings and 31 etchings
  7. With his first wife, Saskia, they had four children only one, Titus, lived to adulthood. With Hendrickje, he had another child, Cornelia.
  8. He was a great etcher and had his own printing press
  9. He was an avid art collector and dealer
  10. He died a poor man in a unknown or rented grave
